We did it!

Well, we finally sold our house! It took a few weeks but thanks to our awesome realtor, Cindy Johnston, we not only sold it but got slightly higher than our asking price. Woohoo! Now, we have to finish up the details and will be moving into the new studio house in a few weeks! I can't wait to get a few photos up here for you guys to see. It will be a much needed and welcome change from our current house.

Look at these!!

Wow! We have two sweet new products to tell you all about! First, our swank new DVD packaging. These extra large Poly Jewel boxes are very strong and just plain striking. We customize them with images from your event and even print directly on your disc for that added finishing touch.

Second, we have to show off the new leather covers on our Asuka books! These are sweet! Take your best Asuka book, and wrap it un hand tooled Italian leather, package it in a custom storage box with your images printed directly on the cover, and it even has a recessed area beneath the book to store a copy of your digital negatives! I just love the look and feel of this book, it's a beauty that you need to hold in your hands to really appreciate. I hope to add a sample of this one to the studio soon!

Ryan & Allison E Session

Wow! We had a great time photographing Ryan & Allison's e session at Virginia Tech! I had been to the campus before, but just for seminars and concerts, they gave us a thorough walking tour! We walked all over, from the gardens, to the drill field where the beautiful memorial to the Shooting victims of April 19th is. After that, we went into Blacksburg old town and worked in alleys and street corners. These guys are so much fun! They even treated us to an ice cream treat at Ben & Jerry's afterward, we can't wait for the wedding! Thanks Ryan & Allison for a great trip!!

Back in town

We rolled back into town last Thursday morning after attending the Captivated by the light tour with Ed Pierce around 2 in the morning. It was a great road trip, with Sharon Davidson & David Lee Michaels. The 4 hour presentation focused on lighting techniques and showcased some great video segments from Ed's great Photovision series. We all went away with a little more than we knew before plus a cool 2 DVD set of more interviews. We had dinner at an amazing hole in the wall Italian restaurant that we were initially reluctant to enter, but I was glad we did! After possibly the best stromboli that I have had yet, I think I may make a road trip back there just for dinner!

Divin' into a busy weekend!

I am heading out of the office today with my good buddy David Lee Michaels, and Roanoke Photographer Sharon Davidson to Winston Salem, N.C. to catch Ed Pierce's Captivated by the light seminar.
This looks to be a great event, sponsored by our partners at Collages.net, there will be a trade show before as usual. This gives us a great time to meet up with the great people who help us out on a daily basis. We can talk to reps from Collages.net or White House Custom Color who does all our printing. They will be there to answer any questions we might have or show us new products that we might be excited to offer you guys!
Anyway, I will try to post some photos before I leave again for Ewing, Va, for a great weekend of camping and Revolutionary War re enacting, but that's a whole other story!

Hunter's Raid 2008

We just had the big Civil War Reenactment event of the year here in Bedford. Hunter's Raid chronicles the Union general David Hunter's 1864 raid through Virginia. I went out for a moment while the troops were drilling early on Saturday morning. It was a great event that lasts all week end here in Bedford, the battle came right through the down town area here and the reenactors pull it off well. Local furniture factories donate old furniture for the union soldiers to steal, smash & burn as they come through. It's really a great event with lots of educational opportunities available for everyone through the history museum.

Hot Wheels!

Our Church group for children, "Word of Life Groups" got together last weekend for a Hot Wheels Fast car rally! All the kids brought their best cars and as many friends as they could and raced it out! There were a lot of kids participating, and some grownups too! We had tons of food and fun! This is one of the best attended youth ministries that Sedalia Baptist Church provides for the community, everyone left having had a great time and with new knowledge of the Gospel message.

Kristen & Steve

Trish & I wanted to thank our new friends, Kristen and Steve who will be tying the knot in September! We Started out at the Roanoke star, where Steve re enacted his proposal! We were dodging the rain as we ran to the garden for a couple and down the mountain to the Roanoke City Market. Seriously, I could spend days shooting images down there. We went to the Art Museum where the docents were kind enough to let us play with the toys in the ArtVenture area. then down to one of the nicest areas in Roanoke, the Grandin court neighborhood for some shots bt the historic Grandin Theatre. All in all we had a Blast!! Thanks again for coming out to play with us guys!! Can't wait for the wedding!!!

New Movie

I saw Ben Stein on T.V. the other night and have been reading is various places about his new movie,
EXPELLED: No Intelligence Allowed. As Ray Comfort says on his blog, It follows his journey around the globe where he proves that scientists, educators and philosophers are being persecuted in a modern day witch hunt because they dare to go against the theory of evolution. These pillars of education are being fired, ridiculed and ostracized for merely challenging Darwin's theory.

This film comes out on the 18th and I will reserve my review until after I see it, but everything I have seen and read about it says it will be one to catch, and take your kids to.

John At the playground..

Last Thursday, we had to get out of the house while the realtor had someone come by to look at it and we took advantage of a good situation and went to play!
I took John down to the playground for an hour or so, and Trish joined us when she got home from work. John will be 7 in September. 7. He lives in a world of Star Wars and Pokemon, and is quite comfortable there. I am glad summer is upon us so we can get out more, he's a pretty agreeable model most days too!

Kerry & Tomeca

I wanted to thank Kerry & Tomeca and their families for being so much fun to work with last weekend! On a day where many other brides would have lost it because the plan for an outdoor wedding was scrapped by rainy weather, Tomeca took it all in stride, and no one would have known that the wedding wasn't planned for the ballroom anyway! Thanks to The Inn at Trivium for hosting us there, and being so professional about every aspect of this event. Diane Wilson did a marvelous job with the cake, that was enjoyed by all, and Chris Armistead, with Southern Soundz for providing great reception tunes! Gaye Agee provided some beautiful floral decorations and boquets too. The whole event was smooth and relaxed, (at least for the guests!).
Thank you both for trusting us to photograph your wedding day, we wish you both the very best, God bless!

Congratulations to Tomeca & Kerry!!!

We had a great time last Saturday at the Inn at Trivium photographing Kerry & Tomeca's wedding. The week had threatened a downpour on the wedding day, but held off just long enough to provide us with light to shoot by if not an outdoor ceremony! The spring in Virginia can be pretty unpredictable. Here are a few from Friday's rehearsal, I will get some photos of the wedding day up soon!

This week's music Pick. Dive Index

This week's music pick comes from Dive Index. I copied this description from their Myspace page..

A true collaborative effort, Mid/Air, the new album from Dive Index, gathers vocal and instrumental talents from across the globe and weaves them into a melodically rich and sonically intriguing sound. Using a blend of electronic and acoustic elements as the backdrop, the focus here is on the songs, leading the listener on a series of personal and emotional journeys. Being lost in a foreign country, the insecure political climate, the lonely life of a fisherman, channel surfing, and absorbing comfort in life and loss-- these are some of the melancholy themes touched upon throughout the album. And yet, Mid/Air still manages to retain some glimmers of hope.

I find that as I get older, it's harder and harder to find music that really does something to me. Occasionally I find something that's worth picking up and taking home, kind of like searching for seashells at the beach. There are millions of choices, but I am searching for something that makes me want it. Got one!

Maternity / Family Pix..

First off Happy Easter to you all! We started our day early at our church with a glorious sunrise service overlooking the blue ridge mountains. Then it was a breakfast buffet that would put most restaurants to shame. An amazing service from our pastor, Mike Jones and off to lunch at Trisha's mother's home with her family.
easter egg hunt #2 with the kids in the yard and tons more great holiday food.
Anyway, yesterday we met up with our friends from last year, Nikky and Tanis. We met up at the Inn at Trivium, and had a great afternoon of shooting outside in the early spring sunshine, and later, we went inside to play with the studio kit. This session was technically a maternity shoot, but we got some great family images, and their daughter Kaleigh was so adorable, I could have spent the rest of the afternoon with just her!
A beautiful family, that will be one larger in about 4 weeks! Hopefully we will get some baby pics soon too!
Thanks guys for a great day!
